Obituary - Chapter President Jeanne de la Houssaye
The art she produced depicts the vibrant, spicy spirit she portrayed in Life. Jeanne, with her soft, southern accent, could tell the tale of gangs during Katrina's riots and make it sound as though it was just another day. Her role with the Graphic Artists Guild as At-Large President was that of a leader. She was the voice of reason and experience which she shared with fellow members. She was interested in national Guild activities and attended the 2005 New York Picture Show. She had several illustrations in The Visual Quickstart Guide to Illustrator CS. Jeanne contributed regularly to the At-Large Chapter Newsletter. Jeanne's primary passion of caricature drawing at local festivals was a delight to hear her discuss during the At-Large board teleconferences. Her studio, which she founded in 1977 after serving as an ad agency art director and freelance designer, focused on illustration and caricature. She was rarely without a sketchpad to chronicle the people and scenes around her. She designed the logos and graphics for Arnaud's and Semolina restaurants as well as many other high-profile adversiting accounts. Her clients included Disney, Southwest Airlines, Pitney-Bowes, Popeyes, Wendy's and Kingston Technologies, the Louisiana Department of Tourism, the Louisiana Department of Libraries and Keep Houston Beautiful. She was the recipient of numerous industry awards including a national CLIO for creative excellence in advertising and several regional ADDYS in recognition of the creative spirit of advertising. Many Guild members met Jeanne in person for the first time at the National Conference in Las Vegas November 6-8, 2005. Jeanne did not share her illness with anyone but she brought gifts from New Orleans to share with conference attendees. The song "When the Saints Go Marching In" was her ringtone that went off during the conference, which is quite appropriate. We will miss Jeanne's voice. A memorial gathering will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 3 at 405 Athania Pkwy, Metairie, La. 70001. Jeanne was also active in the Sierra Club. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sierry Club on her behalf.

As a graphic artist, illustrator, and cartoonist, I have over twelve years of well-rounded industrial experience including layout and design, storyboarding, conceptual design and sequential storytelling. For the last four years, I've been primarily working in the creative world of children's books for a variety of publishers. I'm an approved "Scooby-Doo" and Cartoon Network artist (working on such licensed properties as "Dexter's Laboratory," Cow and Chicken," "Johnny Bravo," "Courage The Cowardly Dog," "The Grim Adventures of Billy And Mandy," "Powerpuff Girls" and "Ed, Edd n' Eddy" for mass media ventures and DC Comics). I've current illustrated "Strawberry Shortcake," "Sugar Planet," "Bratz," "Pokemon," and "The Li'l Learners Club" as well as doing original illustration work. On the side for the last two years, I've been the managing editor for NMA Magazines, Inc. and am the voice and visual designer behind "Dining & Entertainment" magazine and "Family Values" magazine, which publish a combined print run of 173,200 copies a month throughout the Main Line of Philadelphia and its surrounding suburbs. In 2003, I ended a successful seven year run as the weekly editorial cartoonist for "The Suburban and Wayne Times," and I've also continued to work in advertising doing illustration and cartooning work for many small and large companies. I still remain involved in conceptual and product design for The Franklin Mint on a freelance basis. I also have experience in storyboarding, spot illustration, and caricatures. In December 2004 Google (the internet search engine) entered into an agreement with 5 libraries (the libraries of Harvard, Stanford, the University of Michigan, the University of Oxford, and The New York Public Library) to digitally scan library books and make them searchable online. Google has set up scanning centers to facilitate this. Books to be scanned are owned by the libraries, and the digital text files translated by OCR (optical character recognition) software will be stored on Google's servers. The libraries are not seeking permission from authors or publishers to scan the books and make them available in digital format. Needless to say, many of these books contain images (illustrations and photographs). Whether the images will be identified, cataloged, and referenced is not known at this time.
