Join a Committee
If you want to get involved in the At Large Chapter but aren't sure how much time you have to commit, try joining a committee.
Communications Committee
If you have anywhere from a couple hours a month to a couple hours a week available, you can join the At Large Communications Committee for both personal pleasure and professional advancement. Learn new skills in a low-stress environment, network with your peers, and add credentials to your resume.
The GAG At Large Chapter Communications Committee is responsible for supporting the At Large Board's goals through communication, both online and in print.
The Newsletter Sub-committee will assist the Newsletter Editor in planning and publishing the monthly At Large Newsletter. They will receive credit in each newsletter and on the website. The average Newsletter Sub-committee member will commit to approximately 4 hours of volunteer work monthly, depending on his/her role and time availability. If you cannot commit to at least 4 hours a month but would still like to be involved, contact the Newsletter Editor.
Copyeditor - Experienced copyeditor willing to review newsletter each month before it goes out. Proof for spelling, punctuation, and grammar (based on Chicago Manual of Style); check for formatting irregularities; check web links.
Staff Editors - Participate in brainstorming and planning sessions for newsletter themes and content; help compile text and graphic content; seek original contributions and reprints or material in the public domain.
Staff Writers - Write 1-3 articles annually; contribute to thematic content of monthly newsletter.
Staff Artists - Contribute 3-12 original illustrations/photos annually. Create artwork specifically for newsletter or re-use work you have on file.
The Website Sub-committee will assist the Webmaster in keeping the website content fresh. They will assist in technical and editorial tasks. They will receive credit on the website. Technical requirements vary according to role. Time committments vary.
Web Minion - Assist Webmaster in maintaining, extending, and posting website. Must have experience with web design and maintenance (preferably facility with XHTML/CSS). Experience in web standards, accessibility, and minor web programming would be especially lovely.
Blog Editors - Solicit, contribute, and post content to At Large blog; work with At Large Board to keep content fresh. Stay in touch with Newsletter Sub-committee in order to keep theme of blog material consistent with newsletter content. Post relevant links and keep links current. Monitor comments; delete offensive or inappropriate comments; counteract flaming and insults; encourage lively discussion.
